The album of Nightwish surely one of is awaited since the departure of Tarja of the group. After the long polemic between the members and Tarja, the search for a singer ready to replace it, we are there finally. Individual Eva had hardly enchanted me, undoubtedly one of softest group, this is why I am enough skeptic at the time when I begin my listening from Dark Passion Play.

With the risk to repeat me, the small pocket of the album is not really revealing of the quality of the album, though… After having sought the significance of this “pendulum” who resembles so much an axe placed at the top of the sea where fly of the partitions, I prefer to leave its chance to the music of Tuomas Holopainen.

Go it left. Let us see what Anette has in the belly. The introduction of the piece of 13' 54'' The Poet And The Pendulum is fantastic, between Microcosmos and Edward With the money Hands, the crystalline and lyric voice is splendid. The whole is encouraging! The continuation is energetic, orchestration with the Ounce and rate/rhythm typically “Nightwishien”, I am reassured. The first two minutes are comforting and splendid. Then, it is a pity. Yes, damage is the first word which comes me to mind. Damage to have chosen to stop the lyric voice for the face-woman, damage to have chosen an unspecified voice and nasillarde, in short damage to have chosen to let it only sing with the verse. The refrain is brilliant, the voice of Anette passes much better but that is logical when one hears the power of the orchestrations which cover it. It breaks all the fairyhood of the piece except when it uses its more lyric voice which it, is splendid and which sied much better with the orchestral music of the group (I learn thereafter that the voice is that of a child)! To return from there to the title in itself, it is a small jewel with him all alone. I was not bored a moment by listening to this long piece. Marco brings a force and an energy which became essential with the identity of the group.

After this very successful piece, I expected something of equivalent. But on the contrary, one falls into a more or less interesting piece. Bye Bye Beautiful. Fortunately decorated voice of Marco, the piece takes power thanks to its vocal lines. Moreover its lines are much more violent than in Tarot

Amaranth and Eva are cut to be the individual ones. But it is much flatter than Nemo or Wish I Had An Angel These two pieces are very different from others as large Master Passion Greed which starts with blow of double pedals and endiablés fronts! The good idea is in the fact that Anette does not sing on this piece. Marco is the only singer and that tears off! There would be even evil to recognize the Nightwish key. It is hard not to associate the refrain Tarot but as soon as the orchestrations are made hear there are no more doubts!
The Sahara proposes more diversity. Anette sings in a way more worked out a little and less nasillarde. The small orchestral passage is of any beauty. This dimensioned, Tuomas does not have anything any more to prove! The group lost the vocal power of Tarja what returns sometimes its music more punt as on For The Heart I Ounce Had or The Islander however accompanied by a bagpipe.

The album is composed of a Celtic note. Entirely instrumental, this piece is heated, it again does not bring anything to the album, it is completely with the antipode of the environment of the departure. But good, it is well, Tuomas shows what it can do.

Nightwish is ensured to pass on the radios pop-rock'n'roll with this album. They join our good old men Within Temptation. And yet two, three pieces are worth really the blow.
